Alain Li Wan Po is a pharmacist (BPharm, PhD, FRPharmS), statistician (BA, FRSS) and economist (BSc, Econ and Math Sciences). He has held professorships at the Queen's University of Belfast, where he was Head of School, Nottingham University and Aston University. He has also Served as a member of the UK Committee on Safety of Medicines, now the Commission on Human Medicines Worked in community pharmacy (Boots the Chemists), the hospital service (St Thomas' Hospital, University of London, and industry (half-time professorial consultant to Ciba-Geigy, now Novartis).
