Guide to Module 1: Introduction to Evidence-Based Pharmacotherapy
Module aim:
To introduce concepts and methods used in Evidence-Based Pharmacotherapy, in particular critical appraisal of clinical trials, systematic reviews and treatment guidelines.
Learning objectives:
On completion of this module, participants should:
1. Have a renewed appreciation of basic statistical concepts 2. Have an appreciation of Evidence-Based Pharmacotherapy 3. Have an understanding of systematic reviews, meta-analyses and clinical guidelines 4. Be able to assess the strengths and weaknesses of various study designs 5. Be able to weigh clinical evidence 6. Be able to undertake a critical appraisal of clinical studies
Module content
1. Written course text: Introduction to Evidence-Based Pharmacotherapy
2. Tutor-marked assignment.
3. Guideline on the reporting of randomised controlled trials (CONSORT)
4. Guideline on the reporting of Systematic Reviews (QUOROM)
5. Report of a recent trial to give practice in critical appraisal of published trials
